On Demand Google Test Internet Speed

Posted by peterzmijewski | Filed under Internet Marketing

Following in Bing’s footsteps, Google has been spotted testing out its own native internet speed testing tool directly in the search results pages.

It appears that the test has not rolled out for everyone, but some searchers have reported seeing it after typing “check internet speed” into the Google search bar. The test measures download speed, upload speed, and latency. According to Google, the best internet connections have high download and upload speeds but low latency.

A Google Help Center document confirms the addition of this new feature, and also provides some interesting information on how the tool works. For instance, Google has partnered with Measurement Lab (M-Lab) to run the test, a company which is dedicated to providing open source internet data measurement tools.

The test is said to take just 30 seconds to complete, during which time the tool will measure your internet speed according to how much data can pass through your connection in 30 seconds. If data usage is a concern, Google says a typical test uses 9.4 MB of data, but that number could vary depending on how fast your connection is.

A New Look Of Facebook In Like Button

Posted by peterzmijewski | Filed under Social Media Marketing

The Facebook Like has a new look. The Like button, which is embedded on millions of web pages, is getting the “f” out and replacing it with the familiar thumbs up icon. The Like count will appear within the new blue button.

Here’s a comparison of the current Like design and how it will change:

Updating the Like button, and all of Facebook’s other social-sharing buttons (Share, Send, Follow, Recommend, or Save) with the new flat design, is part of Facebook’s effort to get more mobile-friendly. Facebook noted that 30 percent of Like button impressions come from mobile devices.

“Our hypothesis was that more people would recognize the thumbs-up icon on the like button, so we conducted qualitative and quantitative tests to measure them side by side,” said Facebook in a blog post.

In testing the new button, Facebook indeed found greater engagement – a 6 percent increase in Likes.

Facebook redesigned these buttons to be “backwards compatible,” so you don’t need to do anything if they’re already embedded on your site. The updated buttons will simply begin rolling out in the coming weeks.

Now On Twitter Share Videos Upto 140 Seconds

Posted by peterzmijewski | Filed under Social Media Marketing

Just as you have 140 characters per tweet, you can now share videos up to 140 seconds in length on Twitter, the company has announced.

Twitter introduced the ability to add video in 2015. Until now, you could only upload 30-second videos (except for a few select advertisers, who could post videos up to 10 minutes in length)

According to Twitter, video tweets have increased by more than 50 percent since early 2016.

This change is also extending to Twitter-owned Vine. The traditional six-second looping Vines can now serve as a “trailer” of sorts for videos up to 140 seconds long. To view longer videos, users can tap a new “Watch more” button in the lower right corner.

One other change coming to soon to Twitter for iOS and Android is a new viewing mode. Tapping on a video tweet or Vine will put you in a new full-screen mode, where Twitter will suggest other video and Vine tweets worth watching, according to Twitter.

More Twitter News: Engage, Periscope & Magic Pony

Twitter Engage: Creators, celebrities, and public figures in the U.S. have a new iOS app to play with. Twitter Engage, which is comparable to Facebook’s Mentions app, will “help popular video creators better understand, engage, and grow their audiences on-the-go with real-time data and insights.”

New Periscope Button: Attention live-streaming fans – Twitter announced (via tweet) the addition of a new “Live” button for iOS and Android users to start broadcasting on Periscope from their Twitter app. Another feature on the way will allow Periscope videos to be embedded across the web.

Magic Pony: Twitter also announced it has acquired machine-learning company Magic Pony, which has been “developing state-of-the-art machine-learning-based approaches for visual processing on web, desktop and mobile over the past 18 months,” (i.e., it makes low-resolution images and videos look like high-resolution and also turns it into searchable data) for a reported $150 million. Said Twitter: “Magic Pony’s technology – based on research by the team to create algorithms that can understand the features of imagery – will be used to enhance our strength in live and video and opens up a whole lot of exciting creative possibilities for Twitter.”

Increase Your Instagram Following With Some Tips

Posted by peterzmijewski | Filed under Social Media Marketing

When Instagram first launched in 2010, many businesses didn’t feel that their business was suited for this story-telling visual app. However, the app has grown immensely with over 400 million monthly users active and 80 million average photos shared per day.

Today, there are a number of companies on Instagram achieving great results. Those boring, service-based businesses that didn’t feel think Instagram was a suitable platform have started their journey on Instagram.

However, these businesses are facing a big challenge. When it comes to generating engagement and gaining followers on Instagram, it can be a little difficult because you can’t create “like-building” campaigns through advertising, like Facebook. Unlike Facebook and Twitter, you can’t share links and “feed” articles into your profile. Although it may seem hard to grow a fan base on Instagram, there are a number of different strategies that can be implemented to increase your Instagram following.

1. Link Your Social Media Accounts
2. Add an Instagram Tab on Your Facebook Page
3. Feed Your Instagram to Other Social Profiles
4. Research Relevant and Quality Hashtags
5. Research Your Competitors
6. Following and Liking Other Photos
7. Adding Hashtags to Your Posts
8. Run Contests
9. Post Consistently and During Optimal Times
10. Instagram Advertising

Some Reasons Snapchat Lenses Are a Genius Ad Product

Posted by peterzmijewski | Filed under Internet Marketing

If you’re under 25 and own a smartphone, you’ve likely spent too much time primping and posing with Snapchat lenses. If you have a mortgage, you may be asking yourself: What are Snapchat lenses?

They’re a rotating set of filters that alter your face in real-time. They’re pretty cool, and people seem to enjoy using them. When the lens store closed in January, about 10 million snaps with lenses were exchanged per day. That number has now risen to 30 million since the lenses became entirely free, according to a Snapchat spokesperson.

The lenses have also become a successful ad product for Snapchat. For example, Gatorade’s sponsored lens for the Super Bowl—the eponymous “Gatorade shower”—was reportedly used 165 million times in two days this February. Taco Bell’s Cinco de Mayo sponsored lens “was viewed 224 million times in 24 hours, and users played with the filter for about 24 precious millennial-world seconds, on average, before sending the photo,” according to The New York Times. Of course, those are the purest of vanity metrics, but there’s no denying the massive reach sponsored lenses can offer.

Despite the lack of hard ROI data, sponsored lenses are one of the most intriguing ad formats that have emerged in the platform war for ad money. Why? Because the format runs opposite to almost everything that defines modern digital advertising.

First Day of Summer- The Summer Solstice Coincided With a Strawberry Moon

Posted by peterzmijewski | Filed under Internet Marketing

Waiting until nearly nightfall, Google has posted its Summer Solstice doodle on its U.S. homepage to observe the first day of summer and longest day of the year.

This year, Google’s Summer Solstice doodle had something extra to mark beyond the changing of seasons. For the first time since 1967, the Summer Solstice coincides with a Strawberry Moon – June’s full moon.

Designed by doodler Nate Swineheart, the animated image leads to a search for “summer solstice and strawberry moon” and includes a family of anthropomorphized rock with a strawberry-hunting squirrel all beneath the full moon.

According to the Google Doodle Blog, we won’t see a Strawberry Moon fall on Summer Solstice again until 2062.

Three New Ways to Reach Pinterest’s Audience

Posted by peterzmijewski | Filed under Social Media Marketing

Up until now, Pinterest ad targeting has been super basic. You’ve been limited to options like location, language, device, and gender.

But Pinterest advertising is about to get some much-needed features that have been available on Google, Facebook, and Twitter for quite some time.

By the end of this month, advertisers will have three new ways to reach Pinterest’s audience of more than 100 million monthly active users, the company has announced.

1. Customer List Targeting:
This advertising option is similar to Facebook’s Custom Audiences. Customer list targeting helps you reach your existing customers on Pinterest.

After you upload a list of your customers (either email addresses or mobile ad IDs), Pinterest will match your list to its own user database and then let you serve ads to just those users.

2. Visitor Retargeting:

Want to reach people who have visited your site before to further influence their conversion or purchase decisions (in your favor)? Now you can with Pinterest’s visitor retargeting option.

Pinterest reported that visitor retargeting has increased CTR by 3x for some businesses that gained early access to this option.

You’ll need to add Pinterest’s conversion tag to your site. You can choose to tag or exclude people who have:

Landed on your homepage.
Signed up.
Added an item.
Checked out.

Both Twitter (tailored audiences from web) and Facebook (Custom Audiences from your website) offer remarketing.

3. Lookalike Targeting:

This targeting option, which Facebook calls Lookalike Audiences, will help you reach a group of people that share the behaviors and traits of an audience you specify (e.g., a list of your customers).

Pinterest noted that, in early testing, this targeting option increased CTRs by up to 63 percent and increased reach by as much as 30x.

Google Adwords “Ad” Colour Is Now Updated With Green

Posted by peterzmijewski | Filed under Social Media Marketing

If you have been seeing more green lately with respect to Google AdWords, and we don’t just mean monetarily, it’s not just you. Google has changed the colors of its ad tags to the color green. This replaces the color yellow of the previous “Ad” tags.

Google is no stranger to testing various colors of items to see what resonates most with users. Today’s update is another example of that, with potentially more color changes on the way.

The new color of the “Ad” tag is in line with the color of the links which they are placed next to. By all accounts it does not stand out as much as the previous yellow tag.

This appears to be a limited test, with not everyone being able to replicate it at this point. For that matter it may remain a limited test if data proves green does not convert as well as yellow.

Although, ads with the new green tag may be more likely to get clicked on since the tag blends in so well with the rest of the snippet. They may not be recognized as ads, and therefore get more clicks. Time and data will no doubt dictate how long this change lasts.

LI Latest APP Brings Youngs In Social Network For Jobs

Posted by peterzmijewski | Filed under KeywordSpy

LinkedIn has released an app that has the potential to bring in more young people to its social network. The new app, appropriately titled LinkedIn Students, is made specifically for helping college students in their efforts to find jobs after graduation.

The app assists students with everything from creating a profile, finding their career path, and locating relevant job postings. Where the app shines as an extension of a social network is the fact that it can also help students connect with alumni who studied the same subject in school.

To be sure, this app is most definitely for students and graduates. Some of the more experienced LinkedIn users, or professionals with greater levels of experience, may find the app lacking compared to LinkedIn’s flagship app.

What’s interesting to note is that college students are actually LinkedIn’s fastest growing user demographic at the moment, with over 40 million of them already registered. However, there is still some apprehension amongst young people to join the network, and the company wants to keep the momentum going.

According to Ada Yu, a product manager at LinkedIn, the number one reason why students don’t join LinkedIn is because they don’t yet consider themselves to be a professional. “They don’t have that network yet, and they don’t know what to put on their profile,” says Yu.

LinkedIn Students helps remove those barriers by guiding students through the process of creating a complete profile, then showing them how to use that profile to navigate the social network to connect with other professionals and apply for jobs.

The app is available on both iOS and Android.
